Hullo! Glad to be here.

I have been a user of DragonDictate since '92, having first used the software about 6 months after my spinal cord injury. I primarily use a mouthstick to type while up during the day, preferring to use DragonDictate from bed at night (a second monitor sits beside the mattress.) I'm quite an insomniac, and don't even want to think about how many restless nights I would have had if I had been without it.

As any user who truly needs "hands free" use of voice recognition software can tell you, while NaturallySpeaking is a powerful dictation tool it is still lacking when it comes to giving complete control over your computer by voice. This is the reason I continue to use DragonDictate.

My past hobbies have been programming, web design and running an online help desk. Currently I'm hobby-less and its driving me crazy! I'm hoping to get back to school this next semester. I've been away (and lazy) for far too long. Ever try teaching yourself Latin?! Phfft!

<looking around for that course schedule>

Take it easy.

Hi Majination, welcome! What programming languages do you work in? I started with Perl, but have lately switched to PHP. Also a little Javascript, but I try to avoid doing things on the client side.

I take it you play chess? I've been wanting to work on my game, but I don't know anyone nearby interested in playing against me. I did try playing online with a friend once, but the game was in Java, and The Dragon was not pleased.

The only advice I have for you regarding the Latin is never, ever spell "Cogito, ergo sum" without the first "g". (I doubt Descartes would approve.)

I mostly program in Object Pascal (Delphi). I have dabbled with TCL and Perl, and my current project is learning PHP. I haven't really delved in yet, though. Before I get too far, I'd like to learn the ins-and-outs of Apache.

I do enjoy playing chess, but my avatar says it all, heh. On the skill level scale I'm just a pawn. Wink I've played online using DragonDictate, too. It can definitely wear down one's patience. When playing online I usually chat using Messenger or another IM client that is a little more compatible with Dragon, only interfacing with the Java applet when necessary. Its been a while, though.

Hehe. I think I know where you were going with the Latin.

Pawn probably describes my skill level at this point, too. I haven't played regularly since junior high school. (I feel compelled to point out, though, in defense of my honor, that I was only defeated once in that time!)

Have you heard of bookshare.org? It's a non-profit organization that provides scans of print books in accessible formats to people with disabilities. They recently made a deal with O'Reilly & Associates to offer their line of computer books, so I've been able to download copies of just about all my O'Reilly programming books in HTML format. Very useful, to have it all on my hard drive.
