I know of someone with multiple sclerosis who wishes to use speech recognition. Unfortunately, due to his condition, his speech is somewhat slurred. Because of this, he was unsuccessful with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I have heard that DragonDictate works better than NaturallySpeaking for people with such speech patterns. Does anyone know that to be true? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Todd,

I've heard the same thing, that discrete speech voice recognition programs are better at handling slurred speech, accents, etc. than continuous speech voice recognition programs. The only person I know with slurred/unusual speech who tried DragonDictate couldn't use it; his speech impairment was really severe, and though I urged him to try working with DragonDictate a little more he gave up after one session. Maybe it would have worked if he'd given it more training to adapt to his voice, I don't know.

Anyone with a speech impediment here who managed to tame The Dragon? Smile

You can pick up old copies of DragonDictate cheap on eBay (or contact me) so it probably wouldn't hurt to try. Training a voice recognition program can be frustrating for people without any speech impediments, so I hope your client perseveres and is successful. Good luck!
